Hi. I am new to Lemmy. Only found out about it yesterday. One person told me about this place and advised to share the game here, saying that this community is less prejudiced and more likely to give feedback about game as an experience, instead of tools it was built with. I am mostly looking for feedback about the story and direction, since my main skill is writing and telling a story.
The game’s story tells a story about life away from the front during wartime. There’s no heroism or victories, and all you need to do is go to the store and buy some bread, listening to the protagonist’s reflections on this conflict and how it changes the lives of everyone it touches. In this game, only one character has a name—and that’s no coincidence, as they’re all “nameless,” the ones who won’t be mentioned in the news, talked about, or likely even remembered. But each of them has their own life with dreams, fears, and hopes, and despite the bombings, they try to live on.
The story is fully fictional, but, as some might have quessed - are inspired by my life in Ukraine. Though, i think that the things i speak about are universal for any conflict.
This is an adventure game, also known as a “walking simulator.” You probably could also quess that from the name) There are some interactive elements, but not many, so it’s not for those who enjoy active gameplay. You’ll mostly be reading or listening to the main character’s monologues, and dialogues with various oddballs, walking, and completing small tasks.
The game also has three hidden endings. If you’re interested in unlocking them, I’ll give you a hint: when you enter the city, go left, look for a note, and… start counting. If your count is correct, the condition can be fulfilled on a second playthrough.
The game is completely free: it’s too short to put a price tag on it, and I generally don’t like doing that. Plus, this is likely my last game, and I don’t have much life left in me, so there’s no point in thinking about the future. However, for those who really want to support me, there are support packs. Since I hate microtransactions, they don’t contain any in-game content, only bonuses like the soundtrack.
If the game is in English and you want to switch to Ukrainian (or vice versa), right-click on it in the library, select “Properties,” and the first menu will offer an option to switch languages.
That’s all for now, thank you for your attention. I welcome any feedback—both general impressions and detailed analyses—if anyone is interested in sharing their opinions. You can leave them here, but it’s better to leave them in Steam reviews so everyone who considers to play the game can read them too.
Also, if you know where else game can be shared, I’ll be glad if you do, since I don’t have money for advertising, and the game is not commercial, so simply talking about it is the only way to let people know that it even exists.
Because OP forgot a link, understandable with how they feel, here is the game on Steam
I don’t have much life left in me, so there’s no point in thinking about the future.
If you need someone to talk to, my dms are open. I’ve met a Ukrainian who ended up settling in Canada, and there’s another who’s building a new life for himself here in HCMC, if you don’t like where your current situation is headed, maybe we talk about finding a new one.
I am disabled person who can’t find a job even within my country. I know how harsh it is for others, even fully healthy refugess to be in other countries. Also i have cats to take care for. So, i can’t go anywhere.
And thanks for the offer, but i am not in the position when talking would change anything. And too tired for anything.
I really hope all the shit you guys are dealing with will end soon. I know it’s not much, but I’m still donating regularly to help make that happen.
The world is on a general downward spiral though so I don’t know how much everything will go back to normal. But I do know there can still be some fun and happy days ahead in the future.
God speed. And good luck with your game. I’ll make sure to check it out when I’m home in a few days.
FYI you’ve not posted a link to the game! You can edit your post to include the link to the steam page.
Yeah. Think it’s this one though:
I will have a look at this, thank you for sharing your work! But also, i hope you listen to the other commenter and reach out if you need any help an online stranger can provide.
I’ll check it out, thanks! People around the world are feeling for you and your country, more than our leaders will listen to
Buying bread or being bread? Cuz I love games about being bread.
You’d love Coconut Simulator
That has nothing to do with being bread. I’ll stick with I Am Bread.
Why is your logo in the trailer and your banner AI slop?
I am sorry, but that doesn’t seem worth engaging with at all. Also it is a pretty shitty thing to do to pretend to be an artist while shitting out slop with the plagarism machine.
I am not pretending to be an artist. I am a writer. The post says so quite clearly. I paid an artist for the in-game graphics, but that is as far as my budget goes. I don’t have an artist to do other things for me for free, if you know one - let me know. But if you do not, that’s all the resourses i have.
Well, not having money doesn’t give you permission to steal though.
If you are accusing me of stealing anything, please show an example of what i stole and the exact same thing posted by someone else. Else, please do not do such accusations without proofs.
I was talking about you use of AI, which is based on plagiarizing art from it’s training data
Humans also learn from training data. I understand and stand with any artist whose work was copied and sold, but being upset that someone trained on your work sounds petty. Especially if it gives so much for everyone else. But i also believe that the ai should me made a commonwealth, bought by the government and made available for free. This would be only fair.
