a german jewish person escapes auschwitz via an experimental time portal, and ends up in modern america. thinking they are safe and far enough into the future for the holocaust to pass. they find themselves overwhelmed by the fact that not only did they get a country for their people to call their own, (israel). but also that his own people are committing acts or genocide themselves. and also that the past self described victors of WW2, the US, are now under a fascist nazi regime themselves. with nowhere to turn, except inward. he gets addicted to VR porn and loses all sense of self. eventually killing himself inadvertently through a serious addiction to gas station kratom energy shots.

Their first wolfenstein was a masterpiece with a surprisingly compelling man in the high castle-esqe story (the old blood was also pretty excellent as an homage to ‘Where Eagles Dare’).

The sequel tossed all that good storytelling away by embracing a really cringe narritive that whiplashes between deathly serious discussions that are literally interrupted by bathroom poop jokes. That could’ve even been funny, but it didn’t seem to be poking fun at itself in a self aware way, it was just poor and inconsistant writing.

The 3rd was just an objectively bad game that tossed aside all the good aspects of the first title.

I was hopeful they would turn it around with the new Indy game, but that ultimately left me with a very mediocre feeling. Story was okay, but the gameplay left a lot to be desired, with repetitive ancient ruins puzzles that felt very gamey, combined with a bunch of somewhat lame side quests and okay-ish combat, and level design that felt a bit too restrictive for the stealth to really shine. The best aspect of it was just wandering around the different environments in disguises, like a virtual tourist.

I’m no longer hopeful that Machine Games can recapture the magic of the first wolfenstein reboot.

Wolfenstein is one of my favorite franchises but if they put forced raytracing in it like the indiana jones game they can fuck right off.

Please don’t. They brought Wolfenstein back from the dead, made a good game or two and then brutally murdered it again. Now they want to resurrect it just to murder it once more.

I hear you. it’s frightening what they did to our boy. But I see Frau Engel being an absolute psychopath again on that thumbnail and it makes me think they might somehow remember the special sauce recipe
