Linux@programming.dev•Where is Linux not working well in your daily usage? Share your pain points as of 2026, so we can respectfully discuss
41·3 months agoI guess the biggest thing I’m missing right now is VR gaming.
But since my VR googles need WMR to work, I wouldn’t be any better off with Windows 11 either.

Linux@programming.dev•[SOLVED] Send commands to Linux box via e-mail?
5·4 months agoSecurity by obscurity as single line of defense is generally not a good idea.
Also if you want to learn you have to break your system.
OP wants to connect a Bluetooth keyboard and play games.
Messing around and breaking stuff in a well documented distro is great for learning, I agree. But that’s not what OP was asking about.

Linux@programming.dev•Linus Torvalds is OK with vibe coding as long as it's not used for anything that matters
1·5 months agoYour argument is based on the assumtion that AI “thinks” in the same way humans do. Which it does not, since it doesn’t think at all.
And being called a tool to generate code is borderline insulting tbh.
Thanks.
As other people people already guessed this is needed because more recent versions of the Stock OS won’t let you install a Custom rom.
After you’re done the old stock OS will be replaced fully by lineageOS.

Linux@programming.dev•Linus Torvalds is OK with vibe coding as long as it's not used for anything that matters
1·5 months agoThe argument was about deterministic abstraction.
A bunch of devs can hardly be considered an abstraction layer imo.
My argument was that a C compiler is an abstraction tool that deterministically turns the description of a program (in the C language) into machine code. That way people don’t have to write machine code by hand.

Linux@programming.dev•Linus Torvalds is OK with vibe coding as long as it's not used for anything that matters
3·5 months agoYes, but if you send the same promt to the same LLM n times, you’ll get n different versions of the same thing.
When compiling the same C code (for example) with the same compiler and the same settings n times, you’ll end up with n copies of exactly the same binary.

13·5 months agoIt’s basically like telling a junior dev to code something for you and then passing it off as your own work.
Would’t call that coding either.
Normally LineageOS replaces the version of Android previously installed on the phone.
I don’t know why the process asks for Android 11 as a starting point. There are a couple of valid reasons why you might need this, depending on the device.
Can you share a link to the process description?
But that’s exactly the point I’m trying to make.
Average people don’t install/use linux because of the tinkering (amongst other stuff). If that’s eliminated, it’s accessible to more people.
but the average person installing Linux wants to be able to tinker.
But that’s the issue, no? To really take users away from Windows and MacOS there needs to be a distro that works without tinkering.

32·10 months agoI’d argue that mid-tier specs are good enough for almost everyone.
In the past when phones improved significantly with every generation this would’ve been more of a problem for longevity IMO.

3·11 months agoHave you tried using the support chat?
At least for me this helped to cut response time for the warranty replacement of a part way down.

1·11 months agoMy FP4 got the opposite problem where it sometimes ignores inputs when placed on a soft surface.
But I guess I’d rather have that issue than yours.
