Because it’s free hosting, and if you use it for code, you already have your project on there.
Part of the issue is that doing anything more involved requires the developer to now put work into setting up another solution, and usually the developer wants to work on the project, not on making a website or launcher for the project.
Also worth noting is the typical Linux ideology, where the developer isn’t in charge of getting software to users, they’re expected to set the project up so it compiles consistently, and the distribution maintainers are then expected to package it for their distro.
This is my major gripe with any new tool that makes life easier. It enables even more lazy people to do something and you won’t know if you’re the victim of someone else’s laaziness until it’s too late.
Honest question to help me identify with all the constant ‘new decomp!’ spam - How can you tell on this one?
Check the github linked in the post, (nearly?) every commit is “coauthored” by Claude.
Thanks! That site never feels user friendly. TIL - I could just click on commits.
GitHub isn’t for users it’s for devs.
Then why is it widely used to distribute software to users?

The same reason people use Discord for their software comms, devs are notoriously lazy.
True, but for new dev onboarding and general use (especially with the rise of Linux) it SHOULD be more user friendly. Ive been saying this for years.
Literally all the modern recompilations are AI-driven.
There are various levels of involvement of human actors in the loop, but if you don’t want to use any AI project, just ignore them all.
My largest gripe is they all feel like they’re just tossed out there en mass like a speedrun and lord only knows if they’d have any post support.
