Someone asked me how to install Matrix on Android, so I told them to search for Element on the Play Store, but the app there looks scammy. It’s listed as “Element X — Secure Chat & Call” by New Vector Limited, with 4.4 stars and only 644 reviews. Is that the right app?
I installed Element from F‑Droid, but I don’t want to tell someone to install more than one app just so we can communicate.
Updating: Using that package there was an “Unexpected error: Missing CSRF cookie”
element x is the new one element is the old client i recommend fluffychat tho
For future reference: if you are unsure about the app on the store, you can always go to the official website and get a link to the right app on the store that way. https://element.io/download
I prefer FluffyChat. Since version 2 is better than before.
Still no matrix client for android as good as any other “proprietary” chats.
Yes that’s the correct one. What’s scummy about it?
The circular symbol on black background looks like the many ChatGPT clones.
Fair enough. Have a look at matrix.org, it links to element x as a recommend client.
Element X is the new version of Element. There’s currently 2 versions available on the store/fdroid since X is in beta.
The fdroid versions of Element X and Schildichat X both seemed to require me installing and setting up nfty to get notifications working.
I’ve used both element and elementX. element supports rendering math formulae, which elementX doesnt
What’s scammy about it? It has 2.9 stars in my gstore area. Never trust a random rating from “stores”.

And schildi
Yes that’s the app. It’s legit.
