Hey. Well I’ve got a thinkpad running with fedora 40. I wanted to plug the TV in, with HDMI, but nothing happened. So how do I activate it? Its a Lenovo T470
EDIT: i found it out. Thank you for the help.
HDMI should work out of the box.
GPU info needed
You shouldn’t need to activate anything.
Look at the drivers and make sure a secondary display is available.
What’s your graphics driver?
Nvidia or Intel GPU?
I don’t know specifically about the T470, but if you have an nvidia GPU, you might have issues depending on how the display outputs are connected to the GPUs. I had a T420s at some point with an nvidia GPU, and it was a PITA to get the display output to work on linux. I had to permanently enable the nvidia GPU for that to work (cutting battery life in half), because the display output was connected only to the nvidia GPU. I swore to never buy an nvidia product ever again after that experience.
Thank you all for theanswerds im new into this, so i will find out what graphics driver i have. Brb
Which Desktop Environment are you using?
I don’t have a 470 in front of me. Did you push the “external display” function key combo or configure it in your desktop environment?
Did you install from Minimal or Everything isos?
You may need to install the firmware for the GPU if so.
That’s quite strange. If you plug in a live USB, does it work with other distros? Does your system have an Nvidia GPU?
I have an atomic variant of fedora 40 (Aurora) and it just works on an Intel CPU with integrated graphics. I have a USB c dongle with HDMI out and it just works when I plug it in.
I also tried it on my steam deck dock the other day and it worked without issue.
