    Did you read the article?

You caught me, no, I should have read it before typing.

Still, thinking about the possibility of the next game is killing my already low motivation to grind. I’ve already unlocked all of the content you can buy from samples, but the super credits are just too painfully slow for me. I think the remedy would be some kind of currency exchange system that allows you to trade samples or medals for super credits and vice versa.

I’d say it’s fair to make a distinction between “pay-to-win” and “pay-to-enjoy”, but I’d argue that the distinction makes little difference because “pay-to-enjoy” is just as bad. I’d have absolutely zero complaints about any of this if the paid content was only cosmetic stuff.

All of your comment is pretty fair and valid. Things could definitely be worse. Maybe I should be more grateful for that? There is a FOMO aspect to their rotating shop, but the warbonds are always there which is “nice” of them.

The gameplay is really fun and a great experience.

I agree the rotating shop is FOMO. It got a lot better once they updated it to have the 8 or so permanent pages, but even still. There’s no justifiable reason that stuff isn’t just included in the warbonds they’re released with. Fortunately most of it’s pretty skip-able or replaceable.

I don’t think you should be too grateful for it. It’s nice, but it’s not perfect and should still be criticized. Overall I think their monetization is just ‘okay’. Another similar game that does battle passes and FOMO even better is Deep Rock Galactic. Where each season can be retroactively reactivated so you can earn the cosmetics from them, and where the yearly seasonal cosmetic challenges come with the hats from every previous year. Unfortunately DRG is currently on the back burner while the team works on their other games.

i was totally fine with the rotating shop when the weapons were all reskins or sidegrades, but the medium-pen machete in the shop for dust devils makes me a lil butthurt. i think it’s literally the first medium-pen melee, and it IS an effective weapon!

I’m pretty sure all of the melee weapons are medium pen, that the light pen listing is inaccurate… But I’ll not 100% positive on that

I felt the same with the smart pistol they have in there. It’s really not even that good compared to my old reliable talon, but damn do I find it fun. The salamander armor (heavy inflammable) allowing the double-edged sickle to overperform is another one that saddened me, though that one isn’t entirely their fault since the DE sickle came out later.

i didn’t even consider armors! i’ve spent well over a warbond-worth of credits just chasing effects i like in classes they don’t exist in otherwise. i remember checking the store for days waiting for that salamander armor to come back around.

by the way, double edged sickle is HARD to swap out once you add it to a build! that and the blitzer are the only weapons i’ve had to drag myself away from. getting used to a heavy pen primary is dangerous lmao

Oh yeah, same here. I love gear with massive power in exchange for huge drawbacks you need to work around, so the double edged sickle was right up my alley and quickly became my favorite primary. Not just a heavy pen primary, but a heavy pen assault rifle with infinite ammo and near perfect accuracy. The constant screams of freedom coming out of my character as I burn with passion is an added bonus. Fortunately for me I’ve always liked fire-based weapons in helldivers (freedom’s flame was even my first warbond) so I already had the salamander armor by the time I needed it.

If you can get a friend to carry the stim pistol around for you it’s even more crazy fun.

The rotating shop isn’t really FOMO, at least not anymore… Only the most recent few superstore pages that release with warbonds are rotating, the rest are permanent, and another permanent one gets added every time they release a new warbond. So, if you miss it, it’ll probably come around a few times before going permanent.
