One was a military base and entering one part of a big open yard would open several doors with zombies aggro’d to the player. Another was the tier 5 prison that had several spawn triggers. However, before the trigger, no zombies were spawned in so they couldn’t just be picked off. I never saw a visible trigger anywhere in my playthroughs.

I had tons of hours in it. In either a19 or a20, they added these dumb triggers that just spawn an entire world of zombies or open a set of doors with the zombies aggro’d to the player already effectively killing stealth. Worse, there’s no way to know about any of this until you’re in the POI and getting obliterated. I haven’t touched the game since them and was quite angry.
I always said “in GIN icks” (gin like the alcohol) based on someone else’s pronunciation years ago. I never realized it was meant to have anything to do with “engine” as a result.

Git@programming.dev•How do you feel about storing binary files with Git?
2·2 years agoI think the only binaries I have are tiny samples used by a couple of tests in that repo. I generally try to avoid them altogether.
Not enough info. I live in a place with earthquakes, typhoons, volcanoes, and tsunamis so it might be worth it. I also like to take my motorbike to the middle of nowhere sometimes and don’t currently have any other device to contact anyone.
Previously, I coded something in Rust real quick to spit out and manipulate some JSON, but it looks like the jq/yq below would work fine.

Games@lemmy.world•DOOM: The Dark Ages | Official Trailer 1 (4K) | Coming 2025
4·2 years agoI liked it (well, after the Duct Tape mod, anyway) and enjoyed having more lore and info. It definitely doesn’t feel like a normal doom game, though, so I’ll give it that.

Games@lemmy.world•What are some eras of gaming that you've stopped feeling nostalgic for?
4·2 years agoI never played n64 (except maybe a couple rounds of Mario kart, but that may have been gamecube). I tried to play ZOoT, goldeneye, etc. and found the controls and camera awful. With no nostalgia for it, I was out in about 30 minutes (I think less on goldeneye be cause of that abomination of a controller).

Games@lemmy.world•Images leak of Valve's next game, and it's an Overwatch-style hero shooter
301·2 years agoSame. Something I can play, save anywhere to deal with life, and pick back up when time allows. I was one of those weirdos who really enjoyed Doom 3 when it came out (with the ducttape mod; that was one mechanic I didn’t like) and grew up on old Commodore, Amiga, and PC single-player games and NES/SNES/Genisis RPGs. I want that again.
Probably snes for me as well. Then again, I missed a couple generations by being busy/poor (I still hate trying to play anything on n64 or it’s cursed controller).
I had Atari 2600, nes, genesis, Gameboy, snes, playstation, switch. I think I may have had or borrowed a gamegear at some point. In my first apartment, one of the other guys had a playstation 2.
We are polar opposites; I almost never want something not in fullscreen, hah. I’ve been using a mac for work for a bit over a year now and hate it.

0·2 years agoThe fuck is a “sizzle reel”. I mean, I get what it probably is from context, but who comes up with this shit

My main sim is a normal sim. When I travel, I get an esim for that country. My current provider doesn’t so esim or I might consider the opposite
