@PerfectDark My two cents on Humble Bundle: they did have some really good bundles in the beginning, and quite a few charity drives that felt worth supporting. As for the Humble Choice model I was personally never keen on committing to giving them a set amount of money without having a clue what I would get the next month. Not a lottery I was very keen on. I felt that the Microsoft Game Pass would make a lot more sense to pay for instead, in that case (I never did that either though). Also, I felt the general quality took a sharp turn for the worse even back when IGN first bought them. I’m actually kind of surprised that they’re still up and running.

@PerfectDark I must admit, I’m still struggling to see what Junk Store actually brings to the table, even though I’ve actually tried to find out. If you’re already using Heroic for GOG and Epic, what reason is there to switch? The mentioned support for EA, Ubisoft and itch.io is new at least, but it seems far off and not even decided upon. Apart from that it’s mostly bullet points with vague wording that doesn’t actually mean anything to me. Community extensions? Like what, doing what? Could that be interesting to me? Cloud saves “done right”, unlike… what? Is it a jab towards Heroic or some other client? I’m all for new tools and people releasing new things, but they could really use some help with actually marketing it. Is it supposed to just be like Heroic but better, or do they aim for something else?

@PerfectDark Cheers! I had forgotten about the release date for System Shock 2, it’s actually nearly here! Lots of fond memories of playing that in co-op with my brother and a friend. I’d love to revisit that again.(maybe without all the crashes on Win XP). A bit worrying that both GOG and Steam store pages are missing the co-op tag though. Still there on Nightdive’s own page at least.

@PerfectDark I hope you don’t let those types of people bring you down for mentioning the games included with Amazon Prime. Lots of us aren’t fans of Bezos and his ilk, but that doesn’t mean it’s ever okay to direct the frustration against people just informing about what’s available. We all need to decide what to support and not for ourselves, but it’s just stupid and a waste of time to be negative towards other people who aren’t to blame for any of that.

@PerfectDark Well, I find that a lot of people have a peculiar definition of “adulting”. If you have the means and opportunity to do what you feel like doing and experience things that are the most fulfilling at that moment, isn’t that a pretty responsible way to live your life and taking care of yourself? Instead of pushing through work and standard weekdays just because it feels like the “responsible thing to do”? There’s plenty of time to work, but is that what we really want to do? If I didn’t have cats to take care of at home I’d also take more time off and just fuck off somewhere more often. :)

Heh, that’s understandable. I think a big part of it is just that it feels personal. It shines through that you’re interested in the things that you’re writing about. Instead of a piece where the general feeling is that someone (or their editor) is trying to attract as many viewers as possible, something that’s all too common.

@LettucePrey I usually try to stay away from posts like these, but this one is weird. 12 month warranty is a bit crap, but it’s standard. That’s at least one thing good about the EU. But it doesn’t really matter whether you’re four months outside of warranty or two years, you’re still out of warranty. I have my fair issues with Valve, but a lot of companies wouldn’t even bother offering you a repair in a scenario like this. Are there consumer laws in your country that dictate that you always should be offered that when you’re outside of warranty?

Secondly, why would you demand an additional 12 month “guarantee” on the repair, i.e. a new/extended warranty? For something that’s already out of warranty? Are there _any_ companies that would ever agree to that? I don’t know of any. That’s akin to buying a refurbished unit from them, and that unit would _not_ go for a measly $197 in that case.

@PerfectDark For what’s it’s worth I enjoy reading these, they’re thought out and don’t contain any unnecessary filler like most other similar posts. Maybe I should stop reading about games and play more though, but that’s a different story! Thank you. Also, I’m a bit envious of you avoiding the normal day-to-day and buggering off to other countries for a bit, that sounds really nice.
