6·2 months agoDo people really trust Ubisoft to fairly portrait American Civil War? I think cancelling is the right choice.

Technology@beehaw.org•Microsoft is plugging more holes that let you use Windows 11 without an online account
2·2 months agoVery glad I switched away from Windows years ago. The writing is on the wall.
While I understand why Wikipedia is revered in an internet flooded by AI slop, I feel complicated seeing Wikipedia being described as this knowledge utopia when the truth is so…complicated.
Anyone who has participated in extensive editing should know what I mean. US-Europe centric, gender bias, systemic racial bias, etc…
Its very difficult when you are fighting the system.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Is it true Star Citizen players are "melting down" because of the No Man's Sky update or is that just clickbait?
7·3 months agoThose are called drama YouTubers. Just block all of them, will be good for your mental health.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Star Citizen fans sigh deeply, rub their foreheads as developer casts doubt on Squadron 42's 2026 release: 'I don't know if we're going to make it'
5·3 months ago“The team is heads down,” Huckaby said. “We drew a line in the sand when we said 2026. I don’t know if we’re going to make it, I just know that we’re going to do every single thing possible to make it. And part of that is not taking time for the distraction of CitizenCon.”
That means they already know they are not going to make it. Otherwise why say this more than one year before?

Technology@beehaw.org•The Future Is Being Delivered by Chinese Drones
1·3 months agoThis is actually the new big thing in China but I am not convinced it make economic sense (yet).
Is drone really much faster than transportation we have now? Remember drones flying safely require a pilot too.

Gaming@beehaw.org•We can't keep making videogame stories for players who aren't paying attention to them
3·4 months agoTalking about lost feature, I feel like like less modern games like to give their players a comprehensive map.
It used to be that map is a basic feature in games that involve any kind of navigation but nowadays some games just…don’t?

3·4 months ago(I just realize that the link posted by OP is a 2017 article)
Of course. I agree that cost benefit ratio needs to be considered. I also agree that in some cases low speed rail already suffice, but is it the argument they are making? I can’t read the article despite I want to because there is a paywall.

Gaming@beehaw.org•League of Legends is testing a new WASD control scheme, 16 years inThe WASD controls will launch in public beta first for an ‘extended run.’
1·4 months agoAlready seeing backlash from the gatekeeping league community. LoL is losing out to newer games partly because of the unintuitive control scheme.
When even Street Fighter is innovating despite the FGC’s reluctance, League needs to evolve or will be slowly left behind.

Technology@beehaw.org•China has built the world’s largest bullet-train network
6·4 months agoWhy do we have to consider public transport “a waste of money” when they are not being run as a business???
China considers HSR a public good! They are meant to give convenient transport to everyone!
Also, do people realize road maintenance takes a lot of money too? Should governments stop doing that because they don’t make money?
FXXK this everything has to make money attitude of neoliberliasm!

I would like to point out that Adam Smith “did not” suggest wealth = virtue. Wealth of Nations even have a whole book devoted to morality.
The current trend of equaling wealth to virtue came from Puritanism, Calvinism, which evolved into neo-liberalism now.
For more information about Puritanism and Calvinism and their relationship with capitalism, please refer to The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism by Max Weber.
