I am using a Raspbery Pi 5 8GB as my NAS & homeserver. It is quick and performant enough while having an idle power draw which is not really noticeable on your electricity bill. Very happy with it.

What would recommend when demand is higher than supply? In this scenario usually some group needs to wait.

ProtonDB should also list Frame compatibiity. There should not be two databases for game compatibility.

How do you know that waitlist people are overrepresented? The problem with sampling biases is that you don‘t how the estimate is affected.

What do you mean by worst case?

I cannot provide a good source (besides the book “How to measure anything”) for this, but probably 50 random participants would be enough to provide a pretty accurate estimate of waitlist wait time. That‘s orders of magnitude less than the data these sites have, but they are probably less accurate.

It is very unfortunate that these website only aggregate these numbers after the lottery. These estimates are so dependent on having a random sample and this is not guarenteed anymore (people who got on the waitlist are more/less likely to visit such websites)

There is a thing in software development which is called technical debt, which accumulates over time usually invisible to the user, but causes bigger issues down the road.

Note: I am not saying this is bad practice. These companies try to offer you the best work environment and a very good salary. If you like working then this right for you and it will not necessarily feel like work. Also things might have changed in the last few years at Meta.

Jobs at Valve or Meta are very demanding and people can usually only cope with it if your life is your job and the many hours don‘t feel like working. These people are obsessed with what they are doing. It can be very soul crushing if you either loose that passion or want to have a life outside your job (like friends, a romantic partner, a time intensive hobby etc.).

Why is this not yet in main? It always annoyed me that streaming renders on the actual display.

Official support & blessing is always better and involves less toil for maintainers in reverse engineering APIs and keeping them uptodate. For example it is much better if game developers take Linux support seriously than Valve running around fixing all the dumpster fires.

Heroic is an alternative frontend for digital game stores (which are not natively supported on Linux). You can sign in with your Epic or GOG account and play, update, etc. your games just like you would with Steam.

Good point. The only scalper I have ever met did it as a lucrative hobby always buying as many PS5 as possible.

The scalper a protection is also quite bad. Valve only requires a purchase before a certain date. That means scalpers can easily reuse accounts from the Deck and Controller sales…

I said this before but (roughly) sorting the queue by money spend on the platform would make it insanely expensive to scalp, therefore eradicating the practice. Of course that would mean people (like myself) who don‘t spend a lot of money on Steam will need to wait longer, but in the fight against scalpers I think it is worth it. I hate scalpers so much.

I am sad and little bit confused why they are not cooperating with protondb. For a company that leverages its customers all the time it seams so odd that they do all of this busy work all on their own.

RSS really is the most elegant, easiest, most customizable way to do this. Valve really is the GOAT when it comes to actually treating customers well (and don‘t think of them as dumb).

That was 10 years ago. Since then Asia has gotten a lot better at manufacturing. Virtually all electronics are manufactured there now.

Now the scalpers sell the controllers to the rich.

I actually like the approach, because it makes it insanely expensive to be a scalper. This leads to fewer scalpers, less inflated demand and probably more people getting their controller sooner.

I really really dislike the business model of scalpers and putting them out of business is good.
