There needs to be due process. We can’t ban a website because 10k people said it has disinformation. The DSA is the process for combatting disinformation on major platforms, and we should follow it. Twitter is already being sued under the DSA, and they will be banned in the next few months if they do not fulfill their obligations to fight disinformation.

I’m looking at the future and what might be good replacement that offers a blend of power-efficiency, flexibility, and storage cost.

Any modern CPU will improve energy efficiency. AMD AM4 platform and Intel N100 are very cheap. AMD SP3 platform is also very cheap and has a ton of PCIe lanes and memory expandability for gpus, NVMe, and running lots of VMs.

For storage cost, used hdds are currently $8/TB, generic NVMe is currently $45, and used enterprise SSDs are $50/TB, decide which you want to invest in depending on your needs. Used enterprise drives will be the fastest and most durable for databases and RAID.

SSD prices are expected to decrease faster than HDD prices, and will probably overtake HDDs for value in ~5 years.

About dGPUs, Intel A310 is the best transcoding Gpu out there. Used Nvidia datacenter gpus probably have the best vram/$ and pytorch compatibility for AI

If you use cloudflare for dns only and turn cloudflare proxying off, none of your data or traffic goes to cloudflare’s servers. They just act as your dns server, telling your devices what IP to go to.

it might be better to skip the cloud server and use cloudflare for dynamic dns. The standardized way to restrict access to websites is with client certificates or a basic authentication (user/pass) proxy. That would help avoid issues with internet traffic passing through the VPN accidentally.

Regarding size, the steamdeck already has an M.2 for storage, and a CAMM2 module for ram would take about the same amount of space as a second M.2 drive. The only other major thing for repairability/upgradability would be less glue on the battery and threaded inserts, which doesn’t add size.

Nixos’ weakness is definitely it’s documentation. There’s often configuration snippets you can copy and paste, though. If you go with NixOS, make sure to come back with questions, the community is very helpful.

Strange technical writing in this review, and a misleading headline. The phone has a 35mm equivalent focal length lens, it doesn’t have a “35mm” full-frame sensor.

A 35mm primary lens is unusual for phone cameras, as usually the primary lens is a wide-angle lens, but 35mm is still quite wide. It isn’t very different from the iPhone’s focal length eqv of 26mm.

In terms of using it as a zoom lens, typically portraits are taken with 50mm lenses, and the iPhone’s “telephoto” lens is 77mm, so 35mm isn’t very narrow, either.

Also, Nubia seems to be a brand from ZTE. It sounds like a Nokia ripoff, and aren’t ZTE banned in the US? Is this phone the result of the CCP dodging trade restrictions? That seems more interesting than a slightly narrower camera lens.

Aren’t coops basically democratic condos? In Sweden we have “bostadsrätt” which are condos governed by a democratic resident association. They’re good for democratic control over housing, but they still require a mortgage and they’re still subject to market speculation. Some of the apartments can be rentals, but that still means you have a landlord, just that your landlord is your neighbors.

Having the city or the state as your landlord seems like it would be more ideal, or at least a balance of coops and public housing.

SteamOS is immutable, you always get the same update no matter what you were running before. I think the only files that can get out of sync are in your home folder.

C developers are basically the angry neighbor complaining that the city is building a bike lane.

Biking is really popular these days, because it’s healthier, cheaper, and better for the environment than driving, but new residents moving to the neighborhood will only move in if there’s good bike lanes. Now, nobody is asking the C developer to give up their car, but they’re still mad about the bike lane. They can’t be bothered to learn how to drive alongside bicyclists, and they say that bicyclists just have to deal with the fact that the C developers might run them over, and they should just get a car. All the bicyclists are afraid to use the bike lane because people keep getting run over by the C developer, and the C developer refuses to learn new driving techniques to share the road with bicyclists.

This eventually leaves to all the bicyclists moving to another city where they can bike safely, and the C developer’s neighborhood turning into a shithole ghost town with no developers left, all because the C developer is an asshole who can’t accommodate change.
