Not around here but the major banks in my area still allow for note / change deposits into accounts. They even have coin hoppers in some still, great for cleaning out the glovebox / centre console.

It’s crazy to see the downturn in cash going through pubs, I’ve been in the industry for 20 years and remember when I’d started most transactions were physical money, these days on a busy night I’ll count the 7 tills we have and maybe end up with 3k in cash takings. (not including the pokies for obvious reasons).

Ahh we don’t really use cheques here in Aus. Payments being electronic doesn’t worry me, pay lands in my account the same day it’s processed, sometimes the following day if the accountants miss the deadline.

Sending someone money is generally instant using PayID, without fees too.

I use neobanks (no physical branches) so as long as their web interface works well enough for me, and I can use my own 2FA (not SMS based) ill be happy as a pig in mud.

Just wait and see if the climate turns to no physical cards in the next 5 - 10 years…

Banks allow me to login via their web interface, send money to a BSB + Account Number or even a PayID (email / phone number) but using their app to do just the same is too far?

It’s total rubbish, honestly I’ve resurrected my OG ridge wallet and am planning on installing Graphene on my P7P to skirt the phone payment trap.

I was one of the few in Australia to test Google wallet (thanks for the free cash google) and thought it was the bees knees. It’s a fucking long con and fuck I feel dumb for falling into it.

Yer I host Plex for 10+ folks and it’s an easy send. Really wish I could pipe it through CloudFlare but not willing to risk it currently.

You hosting your plex service for other users outside of your home? I’m finding the ease of access for other users / the wife is the largest driving point for me to continue using plex.

I could configure a VPN and attach my jellyfin server to that network however that’s a large hurdle for some of the general population users I have on my plex currently.

For something on-topic the wife and I agreed that she should move to the student sub as she’s studying and kick me off Spotify entirely. I’ve got until the EOM to get plexamp / something else self hosted. Interested to see what comes from this post as it’s pretty relevant for me right now.

Admittedly I could Bluetooth to my head unit in my car and stream Grayjay music to it, but that’s just leaning on an unfree service.

I run NixOS on all my devices including servers, desktop & laptop.

I’m able to configure a service, container, package whatever really and have it run just the same on another system without worrying about dependencies, reconfiguring or copying dots.

There isn’t a worry about installing / removing something and having that package break my system. Even if I did break my install I can boot from a USB, pull my config down from my local git or a mirror and be back in what is essentially the same system.

The hardest part of a reinstall for me is setting up drives, but that too can be a part of a config.

NixOS is the only distro that stuck with me, I tried Proxmox / Ubuntu / Arch / Manjaro but none of those really clicked for what I wanted / needed from an OS.

I’ve not had any issues using my 3070 / 1660 mobile.

Been using Linux around 12m now on all my systems, drivers have luckily been a non issue.

Saying so depending on if AMD want to try and compete in the next generation of GPUs I’ll probably swing to team red.

I have an x16 PCIE bifurcated to 4 m.2 slots so a theoretical 24 SATA ports. Only one adaptor currently but lots of room to grow.

Cloudflared is such a nice feature, I have seperate tunnels for different services hosted on the one machine.

I believe that functionality exists already if you are using Plex; via RSS sync.

Really depends on what you want out of the system, what you can spend and how much time you want to spend on it.

My old z390 itx system has a 16x PCIE to 4x m.2 card - leveraging an m.2 to 5x SATA adaptor with the built in SATA adaptors has given it plenty of space.

Considering I can grab m.2 to 6 SATA adaptors and fill the remainder of the slots that’s a decent chunk of drives from a single PCIE x16 slot.

Software is another kettle of fish and a good way to timesink, I’d rather not give too much of my personal experience as there are so many ways to skin that cat.

Yeah looks like the AU/NZ version of their site does not have those options. Not that I’d be out buying a new laptop anytime soon, but a used laptop 😎

Pipewire works fine on my Intel 5960x, Intel N3700, Intel 9900k, Intel 9700, AMD 4800HS and even my Intel ES Erying system. No pops or crackles from any inputs or outputs.

I’ve not tried with a dedicated sound card, just the onboard on all these systems.

Running KDE on one system along with Hyprland on another two with the remainder as headless systems.

You sure this issue isn’t somehow related to your hardware or something else?

Works great and has been for some time on my P7P.

Ensure you’ve allowed background usage and turn off manage app if unused.

Keep the notification on and allow notifications.

And I’m having issues writing / completing the install to /boot

Files are written to boot by the nixos-infect script, then disappear after sometime… If the VM is shutdown / rebooted I get the previously displayed unrecoverable error screen.

Might be an easier way to achieve this.
