I think it’s more that the admins are the only ones that can do that.

Installing Linux would remove all of that software. Your computer essentially disappears from/stops reporting to their systems. It would likely get removed after a while of inactivity as the lists are cleaned up. All IT jobs ive worked they like to keep the list of computers as alive as possible so that means cleaning up dead or unresponsive computers.

I work IT at a college. I don’t really keep any important data on my device. It’s all either on OneDrive or Teams, which is OneDrive, or maybe a Share.

I’m not too worried about it.

It may be their computer, but it’s my time I’m spending on it. And if I’m going to be doing that it’s not going to be on Windows.

I don’t want Microsoft hearing my voice or collecting any biometric data. I don’t want anything to do with them. They can screw right off. If my job doesn’t value that/me, then bye.

I authenticate just fine. Most of our stuff is in the cloud and web based. There’s Teams for Linux, OneDrive for Linux. I use LibreOffice, and then the rest I just use the web version.

Outlook, I use the web version. Same with all the shares and print stuff.

All it takes to be true is one little USB stick 😉

It’s definitely doable. There’s plenty of companies and governments in Europe that have made the switch to open source away from Microsoft.

You deserve to have an OS that doesnt spy on you. As well if you install linux then your company can’t spy on you either.

As soon as microsoft announced the recall feature I was like nope this I aint consenting to that even at work. I put Nixos/Gnome on my work laptop and haven’t looked back. Everytime I help someone on their windows 11 laptop it feels like a snails pace.

I wish I could convince our workplace to switch to linux. I feel like Nixos would be PERFECT for the workplace, you could just deploy like a standard config and add more apps if needed.

It would make all the software requests super easy. (given they were FOSS ofc. Even most windows apps work using Wine or Proton tbh.) I don’t use any closed source apps on my laptop, but others could.

haha partway through the article I was like why don’t you just use NixOS and then they actually covered it.

It looks like if NixOS spent some time working on its accessibility during setup, It could be a really good solution.

Yeah just use the default setup. Some minor tweaks at first, then it stays the same forever.

Once you get it setup tho, it works the same forever.
