AI tools are some of the most powerful and destructive things humans have ever created. And they are being effectively tested by the public in real time in the real world. When the Manhattan Project was trying to work out the power of their atomic tech, they did not do so by sending everyone the specs each morning and seeing which houses blew up.

Honestly, this. In their desperate attempt to break even, AI companies are throwing everything they can at the wall to see what sticks, without any due regard as to its effects on society at large…

Which unfortunately have proven time and time again to be horribly corrosive towards human culture.

Yup. It’ll never stop being ironic that less than 10 years ago Sony published an entire Ad campaign taking the piss out of Microsoft wanting the Xbox One to be digital only, and now they’re literally doing the exact same thing

1/5th of the entire survey is unknown. That’s an awful lot of grey area to be making such a claim. We have no idea how many of those are using windows.

I’d be more inclined to trust the Steam hardware survey over this.

Exactly. When the process takes 6 years, throwing it all out a month before release is essentially last minute - and that’s assuming you take them at their word, which I really don’t.

Its just a shame to know the devs will have poured so much time into the PS5 version just to have the finished product sit on a drive somewhere unreleased (assuming it hasn’t been destroyed instead to prevent it ever being leaked).

While I’m not going to say its over, it sure looks like Google is about to make it a whole lot harder for people to escape their influence.

And the worst part of this is it would seem even the most “privacy conscious” governments are on Google’s side.

Because locking everything down and removing our privacy is good for the children… Just never mind the rich pedophile cabal that almost nothing was done about other than slapping the wrists a few very high profile scapegoats.

Again, fair enough - treating it akin to a draft making machine isn’t a terrible idea…

But I would argue that reviewing an existing draft, while a perfectly valid skill to have, is not the same skill as actually writing that draft.

I can say from plenty of experience making and reviewing documentation, that making the first draft is always a much more demanding task than reviewing and making corrections.

And while there’s nothing wrong with making life a bit easier, maintenance of skills is just as important as making them in the first place. If you want to maintain skills for the latter, you need to let yourself write some drafts too.

I mean I have a microchasm example of this myself. I used to be good at remembering phone numbers prior to being able to store them all on a smartphone. Now, even if you put a gun to my head, I can really only remember my own. And that is because I outsourced that part of my memory to my phone, just as most people have - without any attempt to reinforce it.

Fair enough, but if you’re a manager isn’t that kind of the whole job? Communicating with people. If you’re not doing that, what are you getting paid to do?

I can’t imagine out-sourcing the skill-set you’re being paid for to an AI tool is a great way to build up that skill. Sounds like humanity’s typical great short-term idea with horrible long-term consequences.

Would be lovely if my Government would even consider that.
I hate using Win11, but it seems we’re so entrenched with Microslop that they’re even giving “officially endorsed” courses on how to use Co-Pilot.

I understand that AI and Neural Networks have their uses, but why are people so willing to give up their ability to think and write for themselves??

Isn’t this just stating that you’re letting something with the coding ability of a toddler run amok through your product, having to constantly be bug-fixed by your remaining engineers?

This is exactly what Microsoft started doing, and its so far worked out terribly for them. Loads of their new software updates have had unacceptablely large bugs for even simple things like task manager!

You don’t have to keep services running forever, that’s not fair at all, but you should have to give people the tools to do it themselves - because people should be able to preserve these experiences.

You make a good point. Even disregarding how well known Itch is, their registrar acted woefully incompetently by not even attempting to contact Itch.io about the takedown request (which is what Brandshield should have done in the first place)

Iwantmyname acted incompetently, but so did Brandshield, who decided to go straight to the nuclear option of a registrar takedown, rather than issuing a takedown request to Itch themselves

Yeah, if Iwantmyname are so neglectful as to pull the entire plug on your website over a singlular copyright claim, then I’d move right the fuck along too. They’re clearly not a trustworthy registrar.

To make things worse, Itch.io isn’t exactly a small company either. If this happened to someone smaller, with less outreach to fight back with than Itch, I can only imagine they’d have no recourse against this neglectful behaviour.

And Iwantmyname hasn’t even put out a statement.

Fucked all around, yet it seems nobody will be facing consequence for this except Itch.io who got their website nuked out of nowhere.

Though if I were Itch, I’d get a new registrar ASAP.

For now yeah, but once Oct 2025 comes around, your options are:

• Keep running Win10 without security updates. If you’re planning on using the internet still, you’ll need to be increasingly careful as new vulnerabilities come out.

• Buy (or otherwise acquire) Win10 LTSC. This will keep you safe until 2032 (dependent on which version you get), but when that happens you’ll be right here again.

• Switch to Win11 and just bare with it. Possibly look up guides to see what you can do about debloating it.

• Switch to Linux. I’m not an expert on Distros but I hear Mint is good for people coming from Windows.

Exactly, I’ll take boring over exciting if it means my phone will be more reliable over time.

It’s the same reason that won’t go for a foldable phone. They look cool, really cool, but moving parts means breaking parts - and if they break, they’re bloody expensive to replace.

Denuvo has the reputation it has for a reason, and labeling their critics (most of the gaming community) as salty pirates is not going to help them any.

When it comes to performance claims, why on Earth would I believe the salespeople for Denuvo over the people forced to play with it? The former has every inventive to quash any and all claims of causing performance issues.
