No, it’s not just that one conversation, there are comments littered throughout.

Against my better judgment, since you seem to be trying to set me up for your judgment, I’ll cite the recent Dragon Age RPG—The veilguard. There’s a trans character in that who is insufferably preachy.
If you eat to tell me that character is completely fine and anyone who complains is just being bigoted, just know I think you’re the one who’s nuts.

The inclusion of marginalized groups of people has never been the problem in games. It’s the preachy, political language that often comes with it. Mass Effect 3 featured a gay character, but there was no accompanying political language following him around. He was just a character who happened to be gay, and no one gave a shit.

Definitely Skyrim, across multiple editions and platforms. And I’m proud to say I never sank into the stealth-archer habit. Armored mage FTW muthafucka!

Thank you. I’m a lefty myself, but leftists have such a hard time seeing that criticism of their own side actually has validity. I totally understand what this developer is saying about depicting a progressive topic without being “woke” (preachy) about it. I see the same thing in movies/shows that depict female heroes—there are some that just make the hero a woman, and then there are others that pump the “girl power” angle, overplay the female lead, make it explicitly clear she’s better than all the male characters, bloat the script with feminist jargon, blah, blah, blah. It’s stupid. You want to do the progressive thing? Fine. Just do that. Don’t brow-beat your audience with a political message about it.

I have never had anything to do with Star Citizen, and I don’t care that you’re mocking it. I just think you should pay more attention to your spelling if you’re going to do so. It makes you look foolish.
Anyway, I’m done explaining this to you. Buh-bye.

I made no mistake. You should mind your own education more and spend less time throwing shade online.

Learn to spell before you make fun of others’ intellects.

HOLY SHIT.
This is awesome.

Skyrim. Load up some new mods, play a completely different character. The magic of Bethesda’s old games is that they leave the player free to imagine what they are. The upside of having the PC have no personality is that you get to project whatever personality you like onto them. Don’t initiate the main quest, don’t bother with dragons, play pretty much the entire game as if it is your own sandbox. It’s grand.

No, that’s a fact.

Xenogears. Just off the top of my head.

I suppose because it’s insulting to the fact that there are good games out there that actually deserve attention.

If it was an RPG that was even close to contending for that title, I would acquiesce to it. As it stands, I think the burden of proof is on the person making the claim. Personal taste is personal taste, and that’s fine, but if you’re going to make bold claims like this, you should have to be burdened with the duty of backing it up. I don’t accept that this reporter’s personal opinion matters more than the RPG fans’ opinions as a whole. For them to make such a bold claim on such a public forum means they need to provide substantial evidence for it.
Let’s get back to basics though: this was a bold statement done in an article title to get clicks. You can tell talk till sunrise about a person’s right to have their own opinion, but this isn’t really what’s going on. This is a journalist making a hyperbolic statement to get clicks. Fuck them. Fuck them and their marketing strategy. Tell me it’s not exactly that: a marketing strategy. Tell me it’s not a ploy to bolster the author’s career. Tell me there’s something substantial underneath this that warrants serious attention, rather than a click-bait article that’s meant to incite anger and garner clicks that way. How much does your contention that this reflects a genuine opinion stand up to the idea that it’s just a cheap attention grab?

“The greatest RPG ever made?” Not even close. Why do titles need to be this hyperbolic?

If I ran a business, I wouldn’t engage in any political events whatsoever. I don’t think businesses should, quite frankly. Be politically neutral. I don’t believe doing so “supports the status quo,” and thereby oppresses people “de facto,” that’s just pressure from activists to support them. You support gay people on your service by letting them play and putting down any instances of anti-gay rhetoric on your platform. Simple as that.

shrug The Right does pretty much the same thing. It’s all fucked.
I know plenty of trans people and their coming of age stories. Most don’t behave the way Taash does in the game. They’re a political mouthpiece, not a representative of trans people. If anything, you’re the one alleging all trans people have this narrative, in this specific voice, with this specific rhetoric. Your comment honestly seems performative.
