What do estimate the percentage of these calls are some internet loser swatting someone rather than it being a legitimate report of domestic violence? You may be underestimating the number of actual domestic violence situations where the police need to intervene be a few orders of magnitude.

Some people don’t have wealthy parents that can buy them a place to live outright. There is a need to have housing available that doesn’t require someone to have wealthy parents or get out a large loan. The ability to rent a place is important.
The real problem is the high cost to own a place to live which results in people having to rent when they’d rather own a home.
Yeah it’s a weird thing about parasocial relationships. You like someone based on things you’ve seen about them on TV and then you start feeling like you know them. But really, nope you don’t.
I think it’s fine to like famous people, but just understand that you don’t really know them. If you later find out they’re a horrible person well then don’t like them anymore and it’s no big deal. I’m not the guy you replied to, but MS fonts are kinda free to download. Not free enough they can just put them into a package but there’s a defined method for downloading them. Most distros have a package that will automatically do this. On Debian it’s ttf-mscorefonts-installer which will download the fonts and install them when it gets to the configuration part of the package install. You can probably search for a similar package for your distro.

Ok, can you keep a secret? I have cheated on her a few times. I tried redhat before I met Debian, but didn’t get very far because of circular dependencies (it was the 90s and package management was new). I never used another Linux and wanted to experiment a little!
I compiled Linux From Scratch, but it was too high maintenance. I tried Gentoo, but it’s not something I’d put on a friend’s computer, ya know what I mean? And yeah, I admit it, I had a fling with Debian’s little sister, Ubuntu. But it was basically like Debian, but a little more sexy but also a little more flakey.
But in the end, I always go back to Debian. Solid, dependable, and low maintenance. Just upgraded to bookworm this weekend (because I’m always behind on dist upgrades LOL). Updated the apt sources ran recommended the apt commands with no issues. Only noticeable difference is the grub and login screens are a different shade of blue.

I think about that interview with Spielberg where he refused to make a comment about Julia Roberts. Julia Roberts only ever appeared in one Spielberg movie. He’s Steven Spielberg, he doesn’t have to work with assholes if he doesn’t want to.
Tom Cruise has appeared in multiple Spielberg movies. I take that as a sign he’s not an asshole. He’s just in a fucked up cult.
Dude understands what makes a movie work. So if Tom Cruise is involved with a movie it’s likely to be really good.

Much is made about online cancel culture, but that’s just people making a lot of noise on the internet and doesn’t matter much.
The real cancel culture is when most people simply don’t like an actor as much as they used to. If the majority of people like an actor just 10% less than they used to, they take a massive hit to their career. Just liking someone a slightly less means you’re just going to watch something else instead. But when a majority of people feel the same way then liking someone a little less means translates into a large percentage of people not watching something. It’s not like you are going to watch 90% of a Will Smith movie because you like him 10% less, you either watch a movie or you don’t.
Real cancel culture isn’t “I HATE THIS GUY SO MUCH I’LL NEVER EVER WATCH ANYTHING HE’S IN!” as portrayed on the internet. The real version is “Will Smith? Meh… there’s probably something better to watch.”
I don’t vehemently hate Will Smith for the slap. But The fact that I’m a little less likely to watch his movies now and the fact that there’s always other things to watch means it’s unlikely I’ll watch another Will Smith movie.
And whatever, he’s got lots of money already, it’s no big deal if his show business career is over.
