Same thing happened years ago on iPhoneOS, when Siri was introduced. VoiceControl in iPhoneOS was so much more functional than Siri. And Siri never got any better!

In some fields, General Purpose LLMs are useful;

• Marketting copy that no one reads.
• Business reports that push an agenda for political reasons.
• Political analysis that puts an agenda for political reasons.

That is why they are being adopted wholesale by certain companies; marketeers and analysts for lobbying groups and political movements.

So yes, they are useless for any legitimate case, but are useful for justification of lies to certain gullible individuals (consumers and politicians).

That said, the fact that Deloitte was forced to (partially) pay the Australian Government back for a report that was all AI Dross is enheartening. The fact that it was only a partial refund and the company is not being prosecuted for Fraud is disenheartening.

That is the thing about general purpose LLMs. They really are impressive to people with below average experience and knowledge in a specific field.

People who actually do know something; academics, professionals and hobbyists realise that they are completely useless for their specific use case.

I’m not sure. I want a Linux Phone or compact tablet with a premium quality camera.

I would be happy if it does not have a capability to run Android Apps; only native KDE or GNOME apps. I would also be happy if it doesn’t support X and only works with Wayland.

The legacy of X, iOS and Android is a liability.

I reckon that the next phone I get will be a Linux Phone.

I will keep my iPhone mini for those things where I need an Android or iPhone (banking, government, etc), but my daily driver will be something that I have complete control over.

It’s not the competitive pricing that is the issue, it the forced upgrade cycle and invasive user policies.

The best solution is DuckDuckGo. You can use DDG as your primary search engine and when it (or Bing, which is its backend) fails to find what you want, you can add “g!” to your search to look it up in Google.
