It didn’t seem condescending to me.

Personally I like having my cds put of nostalgia. I don’t spend all that time making multiple cds for large games like horizon zero dawn because I think it’ll stand the test of time lol. Most of the cds I had when they were the standard aren’t functional anymore, but damn if I don’t enjoy it when my little usb disc tray pops out.

It’s generally correct to assume the average pc user doesn’t make backups of anything. I once had a friend call me to their house in a panic because their work laptop ate shit and they had absolutely nothing saved externally. With a recovery company, he managed to scrape about 10% of his client data, and their bank lost a looooooot of reputation over it. Now their laptops do company-wide backups to a single cloud service twice a day. (I asked what they’re gonna do if the cloud service goes down and the answer he gave was “look for a new job” lmao)

I have other backups, I just get nostalgic for the days of Command and Conquer.

I mean, I have an external hdd I keep a backup of important files on, and an ssd I use to transfer things onto a second computer, and it’s just a full backup of my primary pc.

Burn offline drm free installers onto blank cds.

Well… Dvds, I can fit some older games into cds but they don’t have the same capacity.

I’ve been burning cds with my offline installers on every game I can. Finding blank cds in physical stores is hard, I lucked out finding this stack brand new at a thrift store.

I would very much like to have a desktop with cd racks filling the frame around it again.

I wonder how difficult it would be to make a heating system directly powered by solar panels. It doesn’t have to be enough heat to make a person comfortable in a t-shirt, but just enough to allow normal battery operation.

I’m sure that depends on a lot of factors like shed insulation/wall facing direction, etc, and burying the battery bank would probably be more effective.

I wish my wife could play subnautica with me, as she likes swimming around and stuff but isn’t really “good” at video games, since she never played one until adulthood.

In Minecraft it’s mostly me doing the work while she does farming stuff. I once came back from a deep mining trip to see a once-empty field filled to the maximum with cows. We had a nice library afterward though.

I still haven’t beaten subnautica without cheating or taking shortcuts. Heck when I first downloaded it, it didn’t even have an ending yet.

I’d love to be able to repurpose my old kindles. I have 3 of them that have been gifted over the years and another two that I could probably just ask for since family members have newer ones.

Ideally I just want to have a simple ebook reader and nothing else for at least two of them.

The only issue is from the (admittedly small) searching I’ve done, they aren’t easy to root or install custom roms due to the software version or how new they are. I’ll admit I don’t exactly know what I’m even looking for.

I’d rather reuse things I already have than buy a new tablet just to read books on, especially since it seems like they’re just overpriced generic crap that all looks and mostly feels the same.

Weird, I was literally just thinking about FLoB last week, and meant to see if he ever got there.

My wife asked what I was doing, so that side tracked me into explaining the Far Lands, and we ended up playing Minecraft for the night.

I honestly expected it to take WAY longer to get there.

Yeah I got mildly excited when I read the title, and now I’m just mildly irritated.

Half life 2 was my first “I can’t wait to get home and play” game, despite having played so many games from basically 97 onward.

It seems like every time it goes on sale, I am either between contracts or just not able to justify the unnecessary expense.

Now that I have more stable employment it hasn’t gone on sale.

Honestly this by itself might be enough to make me pay full price.

I wonder how long it took, considering they wrote a script to convert the original transcription into PZ usable stuff.
