Exactly. I know someone who is really smart and works in machine learning and when I listen to him in isolation, AI sounds like actually useful thing. Most people just are not smart like that, and most applications for AI are not very useful.

One of the things I often think is that AI makes it possible to do things that shouldn’t be done very easily and fast, that would had previously been too much effort or craft for some people, like now they can easily make website for whatever grift they are pushing.

This is not by default bad thing, if it is something you only use when you decide to do so, when you don’t have other subtitles available tbh. I hate AI slop too but people just go to monkey brain rage mode when they read AI and stop processing any further information.

I’d still always prefer human translated subtitles if possible. However, right now I’m looking into translating entire book via LLM cause it would be only way to read that book, as it is not published in any language I speak. I speak English well enough, so I don’t really need subtitles, just like to have them on so I won’t miss anything.

For English language movies, I’d probably just watch them without subtitles if those were AI, as I don’t really need them, more like nice to have in case I miss something. For languages I don’t understand, it might be good, although I wager it will be quite bad for less common languages.

Same, but apparently android app is no longer supported since google play was too annoying for the developer. So wondering how long I can keep it up.

Only just downloaded previous alpha to decide it will become my daily driver once it’s more finished.

Some fork of youtube-dl would probably do. Personally I use JDownloader 2 (open source) to download not just from youtube but from any other sites as well. It runs locally.

I’m a bit disappointed to the practical uses, but I still get some value out of AI. I sometimes use chatgpt to tweak existing SQL scripts at work, and as a trouble shooting assistant. Also I use this tool ultimate vocal remover to extract stems from songs, mainly to make myself instrumentals to practice singing over. Those are really only things I do regularly, despite trying different self hosted AI tools. Most are cool but not very useful.

They won’t. Maybe they get rudimentary tasks done faster but their lack of understanding of what they are doing is gonna cause problems in anything else.

Because all USB C to 3.5mm Aux adapters are flimsy as mother fuckers that break down after two months use. I would not even care otherwise, I never charge and listen at same time anyway.

If anyone has suggestions for adapter that is not made out of thinnest possible wire and is durable, let me know.

Also, I don’t want to buy USB-C headphones, since I would only use those with my phone, I want to use them also on other devices, and for compatibility it is better to have it analog instead of USB-C. If I were to buy headphones for phone only, I would just get wireless.

I often have use cases at work where I have to plug in my headphones to device I am not familiar with, for audio troubleshooting at our customers device. Most of the times USB is not an option, only standard analog audio.

Modern laptops also come with way too few USB ports, 2.0 and C combined, so I rather not waste one for audio since there is no reason for audio to go through USB. On my main PC I don’t use my internal soundcard but external audio interface for music production, and I want my headphones connected to that, not USB.

So in conclusion, USB-C headphones would be totally worthless to me, no matter the device. Even for phone, I rather go with adapter, or just wireless ones.
