never say never, i also assumed that sackboy would never be ported but they did it (2 years after the launch on ps5, of course)
astro bot on pc might increase sales of dualsense controller

Illegal but tolerated: just think to all the Chinese companies thriving on Facebook ads sales
They crack down on it only when they need to punish a specific target/person
When you enter China, you have to run their application on your phone to fill the immigration form. Way more convenient compared to the paper slip, right? 😉
It’s this https://apkpure.com/zhong-guo-ling-shi/com.gov.mfa
Luckily, you don’t need to install full malware but only medium malware, there’s a way to run it as a web app inside tencent WeChat by scanning a special qr code.
I run this stuff inside insular because tencent is tencent and even on fully patched Android 15 without any file access permission they still manage to drop fingerprinting files disguised as images in /pictures/.gs_fs0
For connecting to my servers, technically ssh on standard ports isn’t blocked (otherwise it would hurt their bots, no?) but I don’t want to show my server IP address, so I use a hysteria2 proxy hosted on a Oracle VM in the Japan datacenter. There are services like doggygo that rent access to those proxys for literal pennies (like $2 per month) but payment need to do with alibaba’s alipay or tencent wepay which is ultra traceable (linked to Chinese id+Chinese bank account+Chinese phone number) and very stupid. Honeypot?
There are reports of evil maid attacks where a secret service agent poses as room cleaner in your hotel room and tampers with your laptop when you’re away, but for normal people this seems unlikely. Keep your electronics with you at all times, always use a VPN, check hashes of executables if really need to run them (better not) and you’re going to be ok
He is insane
All that info is publicly available, but a nice CSV ready to be fed to spambots isn’t a really good idea…
If I was involved with wordpress for business, i would start to find a plan b, because now they target wp engine, then who’s next?
Google enforces rules only against small devs. Big companies are allowed to do what the fuck they want.
Example with one of those “ad viewing apps disguised as games”, every single screenshot is misleading, showing a different game to what actually will be downloaded. It’s clearly a violation of Google Play terms that read:
Screenshots must demonstrate the actual in-app or in-game experience, focusing on the core features and content so users can anticipate what the app or game experience will be like. Use captured footage of the app or game itself.
In the example not a single screenshot demonstrate the actual game experience.
Google sees the big cash influx from ad impressions and IAP from whales and is closing all the eyes
Tencent and Alibaba instead are still allowed to illegally fingerprint and track the user by placing tracking data in /Pictures/.gs_fs0 which for some reason they can access even without storage/photo permission
I saw a bank in my country requiring to have the permission for apps usage, the one that you have to go in settings and toggle it. Refuse and it closes the app
I don’t know a single bank that hasn’t reinvented the wheel and is using their app as a glorified authentication app for generating totp codes
And then i complained that my bank blocked access if adb was enabled…
If there’s no loan attached to that account, for me this message reads “sorry, we don’t want you as a customer. Please contact a bank teller to have a full refund, uninstall this app and don’t forget to leave a 1 star review”
I’m not willing to compromise on this shit. My phone is my phone.
No it shouldn’t validate the license, at the time I purchased it using a Google workspace legacy account and when they raised the prices I deleted the account and it didn’t complain
Put the apk on an old android 8 phone and doesn’t crash. One day I’ll try to inspect logcat to see if it’s something that can be fixed
main issue is that i purchased the pro, and there’s only the free over there… wait! I can take the apk from the old phone before I wipe it! OMG why i didn’t thought of that, i’m dumb. (no sarcasm, I actually forgot to take the apk from the old phone and i was about to wipe it! Thank you for mentioning that!)
edit: fuck… on android 15 the app crashes when going in background… so it’s the dev that intentionally delisted for everyone as low sales = patch not worth the time 😢
Raid wasn’t designed for data safety but to minimize downtime. Just swap the drive an continue operating the server seamlessly. Full backups are still required as the chance of complete failure isn’t zero
Oops, misread the date, I read Published 11/01/2024 and in my locale it means January 😅
This review is almost one year old. (my mistake in understanding the date, I saw a German flag and assumed German date format which is DD.mm.yyyy)
Also, wonderful hardware but android 12 in 2024 for 700 euro?
Moreover, can run only a generic browser and some showelvare. Most apps in the Huawei appgallery are broken and aren’t getting updates from 3-4 years. (I know because I have a Huawei p30)
Bootloader can’t be unlocked so you’re stuck with a useless outdated os that can’t run most apps
Maybe I’d get one for €100 as a smart home display or for light internet browsing…
At least that app was foss so the source and build is still available on GitHub
Probably the dev was annoyed of the forced change for scoped storage which for a syncing app is almost a complete rewrite
the dev has no online presence, but they updated the app one year ago to add android 13 support
it seems the whole dev profile is gone, maybe they felt the new google verification was a hassle
marketing needs new numbers to push new phones. New version at least once a year or there’s no reason to purchase a new phone
but on android < 15 it resets as soon as you plug the charger, so it’s not as useful which app drained the battery during the day. Plus it’s buried in the settings. (with a decent launcher it’s possible to have a shortcut)
On android > 14 is a good enough replacement, though
IMHO it’s still a big issue that might lead to data loss to someone else. The Windows client should be hardcoded to refuse syncing in onedrive folder.
Someone should reproduce this in a VM and open a GitHub issueEdit: they already know this since a couple years, and the same happens on MacOS https://github.com/nextcloud/desktop/issues/4276
