I recommend EndeavourOS to newbies because I’m biased towards Arch. I think it’s a relatively low BS distro that gets you up and running. You also have access to the AUR which is awesome.
If that seems like too much I’ve heard Linux Mint is dead simple and stable.

I’ve been using it for the better part of 5 years now with no issues. I play games, self host, work etc It’s great.
If you install paru you get access to the AUR which has everything under the sun ready to install.
If Twitter lost money for the rest of its existence it would still be a good investment for a billionaire because it provides the power to shape narratives.
CopeSky would be a better name. It will have to close up shop once investors realize it’s not Twitter 2.0.

I have some ancient desktop that accesses media on my NAS. I run Plex on the same PC no problem. Stopped running Jellyfin because of the above-mentioned issues.
Jellyfin always irrecoverably crashes for me over time. It also suffers from permissions issues where videos won’t play sometimes due to a a transcode folder being full or something like that.
I want to use it but it always breaks.
I wish there was a mobile app of the same quality as plexamp for jellyfin.
I use it all the time for work especially for long documents and formatting technical documentation. It’s all but eliminated my removed work. A lot of people are sour on AI because “it’s not going to deliver on generative AI etc etc” but it doesn’t matter. It’s super useful and we’ve really only scratched the surface of what it can be used for.
It’s a brand new, highly competitive technology and ChatGPT has first mover status with a trailer load of capital behind it. They are going to burn a lot of resources right now to innovate quickly and reduce latency etc If they reach a successful product-market-fit getting costs down will eventually be critical to it actually being a viable product. I imagine they will pipe this back into ChatGPT for some sort of AI-driven scaling solution for their infrastructure.
TL;DR - It’s kind of like how a car uses most of it’s resources going from 0-60 and then efficiencies kick-in at highway speeds.
Regardless I don’t think they will have to worry about being profitable for a while. With the competition heating up I don’t think there is any way they don’t secure another round of funding.

I’m not a programmer but I’ve been using linux for over 20 years. It’s crazy to me that someone who develops software for a living would not just run Windows but have never meaningfully ran linux. 🤔

EndeavourOS meets all of those criteria except for the GUI package management which, admittedly, is unnatural to the Windows convert. However conquering that small, surmountable hump will unlock the AUR which imo is the real value add. There are many packages that are not included in standard repos that are included in the AUR. Regardless users can choose whatever they want. EndeavourOS is a great distro that is not complicated. It uses the calamares installer and ships with KDE. An afternoon of reading about how pacman works and installing yay/paru provides a great user experience and they will never have to do a system upgrade.
