    grapheneos’ attacks on other groups

Where Attack? The worst Graphene ever did was say that they don’t support certain Phones like FP because they are not updating their OS to their liking

Are you gonna go to Qubes OS next and complain that they are attacking laptop manufacturers (don’t officially support Laptops because they don’t have an open source UEFI)?

  • Thats what I mean, in the last few weeks/months, there was no big thing that win users needed to be able to switch.

Linux in a vacuum is a great OS, and what it cant do in the context of Windows is more a „Proprietary formats and software being Industry standard” problem than a Linux problem.

I’m not saying that everyone should just abandon the standards , but that if you need to have these standards, nothing is going to change in a production envoirment that magically makes Linux work for you (in home you can argue about VMs and proton, but that’s not a valid tactic for companies), and you need to keep using windows.

And the other way around, if you don’t need any of these standards, you don’t have any reason to still use Windows, except that you don’t want to change.

  • This.

For Years, you had the Option to use Linux. Since the release of the win 11 beta, Linux has not made any relevant big steps. The leopards have simply decided to eat your face this time.

A refugee would be someone losing their home in a bombing. A windows 10 turned Linux user is more like a Trump voter turned no kings protestor because he though sending the government emails will sure stop the anti trans laws.

And no, sOmE uSeRs hAvE tO uSe WinDoWs is not an argument. If everyone who was still on windows until now was reliant on it, why are they installing and switching to Linux? Every new Linux user is someone who was simply too ignorant to install it.

  • you do not want to fiddle with settings or command lines

    Kinda the reverse for me

I need to fiddle with Massgrave and various debloat scripts to run win

Your applications/games only work well on native Windows

    Windows for docker, winboat, etc

serious group policy support or other device/software lockdown methods

I would argue sudo and normal file permissions do the same

    Makes helping Windows users harder

    ???

  • is the only difference the syntax ? How libraries interact? How disks are mounted ?

    Ah, yes.

You know, the things you just mentioned ARE the basic differences. As long as both work on the same architecture, and none reinvent the wheel, everything is the same.

And as long as you don’t reinvent the computer and make a new assembly and binary, a kernel and libraries will be the most effective ways to work.

Its like saying „what is the difference between python and c++ anyway? If we just strip away everything differentiating the 2, we just get a programming lang.

And yes, I would prefer Linux, for the same reason a python Dev prefers python and a C++ Dev prefers C++: because I’m Used to the syntax and the quirks of Linux. I don’t want to jump back to the ungodly CLI of cmd, powershell and everything else. I have learned the ins and outs of Linux, and that’s how its gonna stay.

  • Mandatory disclaimer about Gamepass:

Gamepass as a model is not sustainable. It is a loss leader, and there is no way it will go like this without enshittifying.

Not only does it lock you into windows via proprietary APIs, making sure wine can never make it work, it also locks you into its subscription, by, well being a subscription.

If you do not have the money to support the creators directly, just choose the lesser evil, pay less than a third (5$) for mullvad, support one of the best VPNs, and just pirate them.

That way it works on Linux, dosent lock you into anything, and instead of supporting a Megacorp, you are supporting a good company. Still not better than supporting the devs, but better than Microsoft.

For the other 12$ you are saving up, just buy the game you liked most every 3-6 months.

That’s how I do it with RE, Rimworld, and everythibg else I play.

But about your question: if you wanna suck Microsoft dick, you can’t just have the best of both worlds.

Either you stream, or you install Win on your Steamdeck, which will tank the Performance and battery life.

Just wait until that guy learns about Crypto

I’m just imagining their pure rage when reaching out to a Bitcoin Dev/maintainer whatever with something like „I don’t know what my Wallets name was, idk my 10 phrase password, but give me back my 10$ in Btc right now”

And then pasting this again with the Title DONT BUY BTC THEY SCAM YOU

Dude, treat every service like your wallet.

You have an Email, you have a password. If you forget these, consider everything the Support does as an extra service and not the bare minimum.
