This is just not true for a multitude of reasons.

The obvious being that most other custom ROMs are not actually degoogled (ie proprietary blobs, still communicating with google) and/or they try to do it in ways that provide no privacy benefit such as replacing google with MicroG which has the exact same issues (ie privelged access to your phone).

The majority of these custom ROMs break any semblence of their security model (rooting, not locking the bootloader etc) to bring these privacy measures, which makes them almost moot in and of itself.

Also purely focusing on removing yourself from Google (especially while ignoring all of AOSP, and to an extent Android in general, is Google centric) when there are tons of other large data gatherers (many of them with far less recognizable brands) that your probably ignoring is useless.

If it isn’t divestos or grapheneos the privacy gains over stock are going to be minimal compared to the comparability issues you will face.

I’m always skeptical when something is called privacy focused and the article lists no privacy features.

Does this actually provide any new unique privacy features or is it something akin to arkenfox where it is just getting everything upstream from firefox?

If the author had any substance to his argument it wouldn’t require laying out a ridiculous scenario just to get the reader to understand what in hell he is trying to say.

He basically tldrs the whole article a few sentences later with " I want it to be easy to use." The author never seriously considers if that’s worth the cost.

Author seems to ignore that FOSS projects tend to be much smaller teams without budget to create the user experience that private VC funded projects can.

Ths whole accountability argument seems to be pretty disingenuous, allowing anyone who wants to evaluate the source code is about as accountable as it gets.

The not-so-subtle “you will be lazy about what your doing if someone is not paying you not to be” vibe throughout this article is off putting to say the least.

I also find prioritizing user experience over the sharing of source code to be misguided. Allowing folks to gate keep knowledge and hide what they are doing is a big price just for a better user experience.

The real issue with FOSS is the same as with P2P networks. Most people are leechers whose only contribution is lip service.

My problem with these lists is they never provide any sort of evidence as to why these suggestions should be trusted. No discernable criteria that a suggestion in a category has to meet, no evidence the site fact checks its suggestions.

This. There really is no point in installing something like tinywall, when there is a built in firewall that has more functionality (granted its much less user friendly).

I generally would recommend staying away from third party modified versions of Windows. This would be especially true for OP as you seem to be a relatively inexperienced user.

Usually the security risk isnt worth whatever they offer and most of the time any features they offer could usually be accomplished within standard Windows.
