I highly doubt that you don’t know a single thing about AI, the climate crisis, the computer parts crisis, the datacenter/human health crisis and a lot of other things.
You need to add some sort of context. Posting a single link without even a title explaining what it is, makes it look like random spam.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Hey! I'm new to lemmy, but not to linux. Wanted to ask about your experiences pirating software on linux and if it's really all that viable.
12·1 month agoSoftware piracy is the very reason that Microsoft got all the market share and had the power to ruin it for Linux.
Either pay for the software, use free alternatives or write your own software.
Add the command to your configuration for sudo/doas so you don’t have to enter a password for it when executed as your user.
It’s users like this who gives Linux users a bad reputation.
I’ve been using XMPP the past two decades. I use it because I haven’t found something that’s better.
There’s always pyinfra.
However. The easiest solution is probably a custom shell script that checks which OS it is and does different things based on that. It doesn’t have to pretty as long as it works for you.
Edit: Why do you keep reinstalling your operating system?
It’s as simple as:
echo "example.ogg >> mixtape.m3u

Linux@lemmy.ml•Modest laptop arriving, what new Linux distribution should I try?
2·1 month agoDevuan if you want something solid and boring. Gentoo if you feel adventures and want something that’s fun and solid!
While they’re technically the same type of software, it’s still sort of like comparing apples to oranges.
VLC is your kitchen skink media players that comes bundled with basically everything possible.
mpv is more of a minimalist media player that let’s the user add the features themselves using add-ons.
Me personally prefer mpv since it’s minimal in every regard. I have turned of the OSC, and I use the keyboard for everything. I don’t use a lot of extras, but the ones I have, is add-ons I couldn’t probably live without, like yt-dlp and SponsorBlock (for YouTube).
I even use mpv as my music player with playlist that I manage using Neovim and the tool
echo(to add new tracks to my playlists).

Sorry. :D
I was being sarcastic. ;) The first letter in those word are barley visible.
I wonder what these things do? 🫣

Linux@lemmy.ml•Trying out Gentoo shortly. Any advice for a smooth(er) sailing?
3·2 months agoMy advice would be to not overthink things. Whatever you do, there’s always a way to undo and/or change it
No worries!
Rice, ricing, ricer, etc. It’s common racist lingo that’s been used for decades.
It’s also a common term used (for customising your desktop) on Reddit. They literally borrowed the word due to it’s rasist meaning.
However. This is not Reddit, and it would be nice if we could keep it more civil here, which is why I’m bringing it up. :)

That’s super easy to fix with tools like entr. That’s what I use when I write Markdown documents so I can automatically generate the plain text file to a PDF document using Pandoc, and preview it simply by saving the file in Neovim. :)
