I remember ICQ fondly, but I guess I’m too young or didn’t inhabit the same tech niches you did/do.
To me, ending a typed message with “qq” or “QQ” is for teletype systems that lacked length and special characters, so it helped if you alphanumerically stated that your message was an interrogative, which wound up being “qq,” presumably two for certainty it wasn’t a typo or a word ending in Q.
E.g. “THERE” could mean “I am there” and “THERE QQ” could mean “Are you there?”
Q.Q I can understand, qq I cannot.
Who uses qq instead of question marks? I’ve only ever seen old school cops do that.

It sounds like you don’t understand - TrollAccount69
Username accurate.
Right, and I’m saying that’s not due to the VR, it’s due to the moving around.
Fair enough, but that’s kinda independent of VR.
Yeah that’s definitely a niche troll/dumb community, but I was speaking more broadly for other, ostensibly benevolent communities.
In my experience, Lemmy mods are slightly more ridiculous than Reddit mods, but their negative impact is far less (because someone can just create a rival community in a different instance, unlike Reddit).
Depends on the comfort factor for the individual user+device. If it’s not a good fit for you, it’s going to be exhausting pretty quick.
Did you make a new account?
I blocked one of yours because your comments are always rage-bait drivel and I’m not 13 any more so I don’t find the funny:rude ratio good enough to waste my time with you.
Yep, I’d blocked /u/[email protected], but it looks like they’re switching to /u/[email protected] now.
Ask how I know.
How do you know?

71·2 months agoYeah I admit my comment didn’t get into the nuance of “pedophile” versus “child sex predator” and thus has gaps to fill, but one can only spend so much time on the internet.
Plus I’m used to Reddit (and other, more normie spaces) where making that distinction tends to bring on pedophile accusations.

I suspect the exclusivity is part of why they enjoy it. See POTUS’s handwritten letter to Epstein on his birthday.

The Epstein class would much rather stay out of the reach of the law even if it means some of their cohorts get away with rape.

414·2 months agoA certain unknowable % of the population is afflicted with pedophilia.
If you give a random person enough power (money/authority/prestige/etc.) to take advantage of children, there is approximately that same % chance of them exploiting that power, minus whatever fear they have of consequences.
Parents, please monitor your children’s social media. If you’re too busy, don’t let them be on social media. They might face a bit of social stigma for not being on the latest brainrot app, but it’s better than them being in the DMs of their favorite video game creators.
Fair enough. It feels like a difference in scale and not category, but I acknowledge that’s subjective.

Right right, that was one use of teletype.
