Then I will automate my six day certificate rotation with Ansible (officially), but maybe actually with a stupid bash script in CRON (unofficially).

The real value is in the agility needed to update certs every six days.

Six days is still too long to leave a compromised key in play, but anyone who can rotate their keys every six days can probably also rotate their keys quite quickly if there’s a comprise.

My experience with ethically run (if unethically created) local models has been similar. Lots odd hardware to get slow mediocre answers.

We need projects that diligently keep the slop out. We don’t need every protect to do so, but it is critical that some do.

Bad LLM code is worse than bad human code. LLMs sanitize out markers that humans use to catch and correct mistakes.

Eye contact is benign for most of us. We still give it a context warning in civilized circles. It costs us almost nothing, and lets people make an informed decision what you engage with.

I run Linux at a workplace that is mostly Windows and some Mac.

Nobody notices or cares.

Everything I need runs in a browser now.

But why does everyone bring up AutoCAD? Lemmy seems to be full of AutoCAD professionals.

I sling code and documents. Linux is better for code and uses Office 365 as well as any other OS.

I mean, it’s a portable device. Put enough power into it, and it’s just going to light my lap on fire.

The more powerful device (with enough cooling, and a wall connection) is the Steam Machine, and it’s currently a lottery to get a chance to buy one. I am fully down to play more aggressive games, if I get a chance to buy the Steam Machine.

But I’m not excited for another Sega GameGear - another portable so powerful that it cannot be practically played away from a wall outlet.

I do want another SteamDeck, but I want it smaller, lighter, lower power, longer battery, and pocketable. I want a SteamDeck mini.

I was part of this adoption wave.

During the first hype wave, I felt nervous about their getting the game to a full release.

I just run stable and pull cutting edge stuff from back-ports or flathub.

I’ve daily droven Linux for ~3 years and learned a lot

I don’t have any thoughts on certs that haven’t already been shared, but some thoughts for any interviews you may land:

• The person interviewing you has probably daily driver Linux for 20 years, and that’s okay. We all have to start somewhere.
• There aren’t going to be many others (if any) interviewing who have daily driven Linux for three years.

So be humble, but not too humble. Haha.

We’re a neat bubble here, but running Linux as a daily driver is still pretty rare, and puts you way ahead of the pack of other candidates, at least for entry/early Linux systems jobs.

Edit: And if you find an organization that uses AI spicy autocomplete to do entry level Linux admin work, run far away. There’s not enough money in the world to make it worth working with people that stupid (who choose to use hallucination for problems that demand reliability, haha).

And I’m not to proud to drop to carebear difficultly, or put in a cheat code.

But some games just don’t give me anything, so I just rage quit and move on.

I rarely even try what I suspect to be the final boss battle.

Game devs without difficulty settings can fuck off and not take my money for the next chapter.

Yeah. I just mention it because I’ve generally just used VNC myself; and wondered what the fuss with fancier tools was about.

But then I realized home Internet has getting worse for some folks, and so folks might be using a service to get VPN-ed together, or whatever.

I’m also a big VNC fan, but I imagine RustDesk is solving for CGNAT better? I’m not aware of anything in VNC that solves CGNAT being a PITA.

Why reference the imperfect copies gen AI makes when you have databases of the real original artists and pictures and 3d scans of real things in the world out there to reference.

I think it is because one of these approaches requires skill and time, the other requires a ChatGPT subscription and George Jetson to push one idiotic button.

It makes people feel that they can contribute in fields where they were previously (and still are) useless.
