Yes it can be used standalone, however Quest games are built for the Quest. Frame games are PC games translated to ARM. That’ll unlock a lot of games for standalone use, but I seriously doubt it’ll have the resources for something like NMS to run on it’s hardware.

The controller was absolute garbage! The analog sticks would get snagged where the battery covers split. Batteries on the front for who knows why.
Lol mine’s living in the closet now and thankfully all those games have released for the
PCGabecube. I’ll keep the hardware as a fun experiment in history though.

Ouya wasn’t all bad though! Some great games came out of it. Towerfall and Bombsquad are still favorite party games in my house. No Brakes Valet and Hidden in Plain Sight also still get played occasionally.

Gaming@lemmy.zip•Linux gamers on Steam finally cross over the 3% markEnglish
6·3 months agoValve and Lenovo released a SteamOS machine not long ago, and it showed marked improvement in performance over windows. Then people have been installing bazzite on the Rog Ally and reporting 30% fps gains on identical hardware over the “xbox optimized” W11. Microsoft might have money but I’m not convinced they have the competency to compete. They’re trending towards digging their own grave in the portable market.

3·4 months agoI use notesnook but I don’t self host, just the app locally. It has an option to insert a task list into the note, and that has drag and drop reordering. It also encrypts at rest, and has text search. Hope that helps your decision.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Steam Deck LCD 256GB on sale for 20% off ($400 -> $320)
3·4 months agoYeah sorry, didn’t intend to discourage anyone from the deal - it’s great hardware at an incredible price. If you’re indifferent on the screen or it’s not applicable to your use, you know who you are and should jump on it. If you can’t reasonably swing the dollars for OLED, you should also jump on it.
I still wouldn’t recommend LCD over the OLED, it’s undeniably the better configuration for handheld gaming.

12·4 months agoI wouldn’t say I recommend it over the OLED, but they both work great. My OG LCD still holding up strong, but the OLED is definitely an improvement in both screen quality and battery.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Steam Deck LCD 256GB on sale for 20% off ($400 -> $320)
12·4 months agoI assume they already have the hardware built and are bascially liquidating it. The 256 seemed a bit of a black sheep in the units, with most people choosing the 64 and upgrading storage themselves, or the 512 to maximize storage from factory + screen upgrade.
Mostly though just making a joke that valve is supposed to be following market trends and hiking the price regardless of actual conditions. The shareholders would be in shambles, if they had any.

Nova is ridiculously big shoes to fill, but I’ve had a decent experience with hyperion.
I mostly use Niagara these days though, I’ve come to like the list layout more than icon grids.

4·5 months agoIt’s still on the PS Store but they removed the buy button, now wishlist only again. Team cherry broke everything.

It’ll need to be some very low settings to hit 4k @ 90fps minimum. Sacrificing frames or resolution in VR is a non-starter. I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, but sounds extraordinary craptastic to me.
