Updated to Fedora 45 Workstation without a hitch and I didn’t notice anything new or exciting but that is honestly OK with me. One of the things I dislike about modern updates (e.g. Android) is that they always seem to change how things look or function with little obvious benefit. I have been using Fedora since 43 and the only thing I had to fiddle with was the Super I/O module so that I could get “Sensors” working and it has been rock solid since then through two major updates.

I love the combination of the clean UI and desktop environment, great gaming performance, and packages that are “almost” rolling-release fresh. I haven’t tried Arch yet but I did start out with Ubuntu about 10 years ago and Mint more recently so Fedora seems like a solid middle of the road option which I definitely recommend for anyone who is looking to try out a different distro.

New? Exciting? That’s not the fedora experience. Fedora is boring and stable. And that’s the whole point of it. It’s extremely well designed and extremely well-made and it just works. It’s not trying to impress anyone with some flashy new feature that might make the system unstable or unreliable in anyway, and it’s not trying to make some flashy changes to the interface that people have to constantly adjust to.

Nope. Stable, reliable, and boring that’s what I love about it. Lol.

I’ve got it installed on my 2011 iMac that use as a plex server. Runs great.

Gnome 51 certainly came with some performance improvements that were very noticeable on my very very old server, but others might not have noticed on a more modern machine.
