However this article is just about the Sony PlayStation. No one forces people to buy a PlayStation. And Sony, a Japanese company, is also not affiliated with the US government.
The prices went up, and customers accepted that price. Bargaining after the deal is made generally doesn’t give you a strong position.
The American definition of a voting majority is not relevant here. What matters is that Americans put Trump in place, knowing he would impose tariffs, making foreign products more expensive. Just because millions didn’t vote for him, doesn’t exclude them from the consequences.
Let me play the devil’s advocate.
The question is, how do you legally know that they passed all that cost on to the customers? After all, customers did not pay the import fees directly. It will be a hard case to make.
Also, a majority of Americans voted to introduce tariffs. It was a big part of Trump’s campaign from the start. The reason Sony received this money in the first place was because of errors made by the American government, making the tariffs illegal. It was the US government that is responsible for this money, not Sony.
These are American stats. US is generally more Apple minded.

As you mention, a distributed box without a disc counts as digital. A distributed box with a disc counts as physical.
How about we ship a box with both a digital download code and a disc? Would you classify it as digital?
It sounds logical. However, by that definition, game boxes with download codes would be physical as well… Yet Sony isn’t killing those.
To me it’s clear that it’s not about the method of distribution or the way data is processed, it’s about their business model in general.
Discs are just as digital as internet data piped through fiber optics. It’s a deceitful term which doesn’t cover the true change: perpetual license vs time limited license.
Prefab parts are actually very common here in West and North European homes. Complete prefab houses too, factory made, very well insulated, using heat pumps and underfloor heating, built in plumbing and electrical systems. Minidisc was licensed technology, companies like Sharp, Denon, Pioneer, JVC, Onkyo and Kenwood all made competitive minidisc players. The discs were also sold by many brands.
I don’t think Sony’s audio division was as restrictive and aggressive as their gaming division.
I love my Wii, it’s always immediately ready, has good haptics and some of the games are just awesome.
